Prolapse

What is Rectal Prolapse ?
This is a common condition where the rectum protrudes out of the anus. According to the severity either surgery or STARR (stapler surgery) is done. Prolapse rectum is a very disturbing condition but it can be treated successfully by STARR procedure or Laparoscopic surgery.
Types of Rectal Prolapse:
- Partial Rectal Prolapse (Mucosal Prolapse): In this type, only the inner lining of the rectum, known as the mucosa, protrudes during bowel movements and then retracts back inside the body afterward.
- Full-Thickness Rectal Prolapse: This is a more severe form where a larger portion of the rectum protrudes through the anus and may not retract on its own.
Symptoms:
- A sensation of tissue protruding from the anus.
- Discomfort or pain in the anal area.
- Bowel movement difficulties, such as constipation or difficulty controlling bowel movements.
- Bleeding or irritation from the exposed tissue.
